Work top to bottom. The cadences are deliberate: security releases genuinely should not wait for a monthly window, and a quarterly plugin audit genuinely does not need doing weekly. Doing everything monthly is a common mistake that produces both wasted effort and unpatched vulnerabilities.
Two items are worth calling out because they are the ones most often skipped and the ones that cause the most damage when they are. Testing a restore is the difference between having backups and having recovery. Checking that forms and checkout work catches the silent failures that can otherwise run for weeks, because a broken contact form does not report itself, enquiries simply stop.
What this looks like across a portfolio
